so what's the point of locking doors in the wizarding world if they open with a simple "alohomora"?

I totally hear you on that one. Maybe to keep out the Muggles?
Does this mean that eventually in motherhood you have time to read again?
also, children maybe? it's something they learn in school right. Which leads to another question: what kind of school teaches kids to pick locks?
I think a lot of stuff in HP kind of falls apart if you scrutinize it too closely though.

shan-unfortunately i stay up at night when i should be sleeping to read! but yes, someday the deliriousness of sleep deprivation passes. of course, keely's almost a year now, so it did take some time...
No kidding! I'm on Book 6 right now and I often have questions like that.
Overall though I think Rowlings does a pretty good job of addressing the issue of "why don't they just use magic?" to get out of every problem they come across.
And I stay up WAY too late to read also. Having time to yourself is such a novelty, I never want to end it with something as boring as sleep. :)
